Preserving Metal Coins
METAL COINS:
More than Rubbish and Scrap Metal
Metal coins can be either a dream or a nightmare for museums or archives, depending on a variety of factors, such as the institutions' size, amount of storage space, and staff members' knowledge of conservation practices.

The purpose of this website is to educate everyone, from ordinary people and general enthusiasts to graduate students, as well as numismatists.

Metal coins range in their composition from iron, bronze, silver, copper, and gold to alloys (a syncretization of two metals, such as silver and copper).
Their unique compositions also determine the type and rate of deterioration. Furthermore, rare and valuable coins are either pure metal or alloys with a strong base metal, such as silver, which enhances their monetary worth.
